Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

After a 64.7% record four seasons ago, and 63.3% (178-103) three seasons ago and 63.4% (180-104) two seasons ago, I ended up at a whopping 68.8% last season, my best season yet.  So that’s ten years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  I also had 84% right for Locks of the Week (16-3) and 44.4% for Upsets of the Week (8-10), so not only did I meet my 2023 percentages for both Locks and Upsets, but I have ten years in a row of Locks being over 70%.  But that was the past, and this is now, and I’m shooting for eleven in a row for both!

Had a perfect week going 6-0, leaving me 180-97 for the season (64.9%), hitting my Lock (18-1) and my Upset (10-9).  Let’s move on to my Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for the Divisional Round Playoffs…

Lock of the Week Seattle Seahawks (-7.5) over San Francisco 49ers

The Seahawks have been really good on defense and relatively productive on offense so long as good Sam Darnold shows up.  However, against the 49ers in the last week of the regular season, the Seahawks didn’t really need Darnold, as the defense locked them down to 3 points.  That’s going to be important since Darnold appears to be suffering from an oblique injury.  The 49ers get another shot, but playing on the road and without George Kittle, I don’t think they’ll turn their luck around.  Lock in the Seahawks.

Upset of the Week Buffalo Bills (+1.0) over Denver Broncos

The Broncos aren’t a bad team, but they’re probably the least threatening offense left in the playoffs, and Bo Nix has been pretty inconsistent all season long.  The Bills are on the upswing and even with Josh Allen less than 100% looked pretty good against what everyone thought was a surging Jaguars team.  Call it a hunch, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bills upset the Broncos.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

4-2 last week and annoyed that I didn’t back my heart with San Francisco against Philly.

Saturday:

Buffalo at Denver: Having picked against the Bills last week I will take them this week. Not only because their offense got back on track, but the defense making a big stop at the end will spur them against a Broncos offense that’s hard to trust.

San Francisco at Seattle: Brock Purdy is 4-0 at Seattle. And Sam Darnold popped up on the injury report on Wednesday. Here’s the problem for the 49ers. They are the walking wounded. They’ve lost George Kittle to a serious injury, and several other players left their win over Philadelphia with injuries. And even San Francisco can’t overcome all these injuries.

Sunday:

Houston at New England: Drake Maye’s been on a heater for months, but he hasn’t faced a defense like the Texans. C.J. Stroud had a terrible time in Pittsburgh, but I think Houston leans on the running game and Stroud makes a couple of big plays with his legs and that makes the difference. Texans upset the Patriots.

L.A. Rams at Chicago: Oh lordy the weather, the weather, the weather. We’ve all heard about the weather. Both QBs will be negatively affected by it. Both teams have two good running backs so it will come down to who runs the ball more effectively. And I will take the Rams because people are forgetting that they played pretty well in a snowstorm in Philadelphia last year. And this Bears team is good, but they aren’t as good as last year’s Eagles.
