Ha Kung Wong’s Pick
San Franciso 49ers

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

After a 64.7% record two seasons ago, I ended last season 63.3% (178-103).  So that’s eight years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  I also ended up 16-4 for Locks of Week (80%) and 8-12 for Upsets of the Week (40%) which is also eight years in a row of Locks being over 70%.  I was 1-1 in the Conference Championships making me 180-104 (63.4%) overall for the season.  Regardless of how my Super Bowl LVIII pick goes, I’m going to end with my ninth straight season over 60% and I ended my Locks of the Week 17-3 (85%) and Upsets of the Week 8-11 (42.1%), so I managed to beat my 2022 percentages for Locks and Upsets.  You’re welcome.🎓😎

We’re at the end of the season, very disappointing.  The Lions were unable to close it out last week and now we have the 49ers and Chiefs.  I just can’t see going against Mahomes and MaAuto at this point.  They just pull it together in the playoffs and get it done.  They’re like the NBA team that coasts mid way through the season only to close out another win.  Here’s to the Swifties, piece of advice, don’t cross them.

George’s Thoughts:

Final pick of the year:

Two weeks ago I picked the Chiefs and said “But Pat Mahomes” and I should go the same way here.

But this is why I can’t. When they in the Super Bowl 5 years ago, for all of Pat Mahomes brilliance, the 49ers were 10 points up halfway through the 4th quarter. A lot has changed.

Kansas City has a better (maybe even much better) defense than they did. They’ve upgraded at RB with Isaiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (when they use them). There WR corps is a lot worse but Mahomes is better than he’s ever been and Travis Kelce is older and looked like he was starting to decline but then had a brilliant playoffs.

The 49ers are better at QB. Brock Purdy might not be a better passer than Jimmy Garoppolo but he’s not a statue like Garoppolo was. Purdy’s ability to run for first downs will be crucial in this game.

And at RB they now have Christian McCaffrey. Enough said. They didn’t have Trent Williams, the best left tackle football or Brandon Aiyuk either.

The 49ers defense probably isn’t as good as that previous edition, but they haven’t fallen off that far. There one big area that’s worse is kicker, Jake Moody has struggled this year.

And looking at all that I have to take San Francisco and trust that when Kyle Shanahan gets in a winning position, he will make sure that McCaffrey gets the ball to finish the job. And that will get McCaffrey the MVP as well.
