Wild Card Games
Ha Kung Wong’s Picks
Ha Kung’s Thoughts:
After a 64.7% record four seasons ago, and 63.3% (178-103) three seasons ago and 63.4% (180-104) two seasons ago, I ended up at a whopping 68.8% last season, my best season yet. So that’s ten years in a row with over a 60% pick rate. I also had 84% right for Locks of the Week (16-3) and 44.4% for Upsets of the Week (8-10), so not only did I meet my 2023 percentages for both Locks and Upsets, but I have ten years in a row of Locks being over 70%. But that was the past, and this is now, and I’m shooting for eleven in a row for both!
Had a decent week going 9-7, leaving me 174-97 for the season (64.2%), hitting my Lock (17-1) and my Upset (9-9). Let’s move on to my Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Super Wild Card Weekend…
Lock of the Week ➡ Houston Texans (-3.0) over Pittsburgh Steelers
The Texans defense is phenomenal. They’ve allowed the least yards (277.2) and 2nd least points (17.4) per game and have the 3rd most takeaways (29) this season. The Steelers offense is not phenomenal. They have the 8th least yards (305.6) per game this season and Aaron Rodgers has only the 23rd ranked QBR among starting QBs this season. The Steelers lucked into the Wild Card due to a Tyler Loop missed field goal. I don’t think they get that lucky this week. Lock in the Texans.
Upset of the Week ➡ Chicago Bears (+1.0) over Green Bay Packers
The Bears face off against the Packers in their first playoff game since losing to the Saints in 2020, and their first home playoff game since the infamous double doink in 2018. The Bears and Packers split the regular season games with the Bears having the most improbably comeback win ever at Soldier Field. Honestly, on paper, the Packers look like the better team except for in two places. The Bears have the best Turnover Differential in the NFL (+22) and the Bears have won the most games in the last 2 minutes of any team this season. OK, so that last one isn’t really a stat, but it certainly is a fact, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bears upset the Packers and get their first playoff win since 2010.

George’s Picks
George’s Thoughts:
Time to turn the page and win the playoffs:
L.A. Rams at Carolina: On several occasions the struggling, barely .500 or under .500 division winner has won this game. There’s just 1 problem. The Panthers already knocked the Rams over in Charlotte. Can it really happen twice? I think not.
Green Bay at Chicago: I know the Bears were bad for most of the game against the Lions. But with a quarterback coming off an injury (no matter if it’s Jordan Love or Malik Willis) and the defense a sieve since Micah Parsons’ injury, somehow the Packers are favored. No way. Surely not even Chicago will screw this up.
Buffalo at Jacksonville: This is Josh Allen’s year! It’s his best chance. How many weeks have we heard that. Well there’s just a few problems. 1. The Bills defense stinks, 2. the Bills wide receivers haven’t been good enough and 3. Sean McDermott isn’t a good coach under pressure. And since trading for Jacobi Meyers, the Jaguars have been solid without being spectacular and cured themselves of their habitual flakiness. This Jacksonville team looks the goods.
San Francisco at Philadelphia: I would love to take the 49ers here as I believe the Eagles should be punished for giving away the 2 seed. But if Trent Williams isn’t playing (and it looks like he isn’t) then San Francisco will not be able to protect Brock Purdy. Philadelphia wins.
L.A. Chargers at New England: Justin Herbert and John Harbaugh on the road in the rain and the cold in Foxboro? Not on your life buster. Patriots roll.
Houston at Pittsburgh: Somehow the Steelers saw off the Ravens and put an end to John Harbaugh’s tenure in Baltimore. But Pittsburgh will not move the ball consistently against the Texans’ nasty defense. Houston wins and ends Mike Tomlin’s run as Steelers head coach.
