“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene 2023 Week 8 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head-to-head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 6 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  This year we’ll have their picks up right HERE, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Week 8 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

After a 64.7% record two seasons ago, I ended last season 63.3% (178-103).  So that’s eight years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  I also ended up 16-4 for Locks of Week (80%) and 8-12 for Upsets of the Week (40%) which is also eight years in a row of Locks being over 70%.  I was 10-5 in Week 6 as I make up for a rough start and am now 56-37 (60.2%) overall for the season.  I unfortunately missed on my Lock of the Week (Bills) and my Upset of the Week (Dolphins), meaning I’m 71.4% for Locks and 42.9% for Upsets so far.  But there are plenty of weeks to go!

Let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 8…

Lock of the Week Kansas City Chiefs (-8.0) over Denver Broncos

The Chiefs are not only the defending champs and on a 6-game win streak, but they have Taylor Swift on their side!  Didn’t you see the stat that Travis Kelce has twice as many yards when Swift is present?  Honestly, none of that matters since the Chiefs are facing the lowly Broncos who look on the verge of a fire sale.  Don’t over think it, lock in the Chiefs.

Upset of the Week Cincinnati Bengals (+5.5) over San Francisco 49ers

Clearly the 49ers are really good, but they’ve lost in back-to-back weeks to the Cleveland Browns and the Minnesota Vikings, plus Brock Purdy is likely to be out due to a concussion.  Joe Burrow and the Bengals were starting to hit their stride before the bye, and Burrow had some extra time for his calf to heal up, so I like the potential for an upset here.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

We all struggled last week and I got knocked out of the eliminator so let’s get back on track by backing the Rams to upset the Cowboys.

L.A. gave away the Steelers game but right now, that’s a better coached team than Dallas and a better coached offense in particular. Plus the public is all over the Cowboys and this is one of those times to fade the public.

We are also going to back some young QBs this week. Will Levis is finally in for Tennessee and I think he gives them a spark plus Desmond Ridder just won his first game on the road as a starter. Is he really going to do it twice in a row? No.

This week is the week for the Panthers and Bryce Young. Two weeks to get ready and everyone is lauding Houston and C.J. Stroud and saying the Panthers made a mistake. Young has improved his last 2 starts and with no top pick to look forward to next draft the Panthers start a good post-bye run by beating the Texans.

If you are still alive in the eliminator and you haven’t used the Chargers or the Ravens, this is the time to use either of them.
