2018 Week 14 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 3 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  But this year we’ll have their picks up right HERE each and every week, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Week 14 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 62% record for the season, so that’s three years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  I had a decent Week 13, getting me to 127-63 (66.8%).  And I intend to keep you at 62%+, as well as keep you ahead of Ryan.

So far this season I’m 12 for 13 on Locks of the Week and 6 for 13 for Upsets of the Week.  Let’s see what I can do for you for Week 14…

Lock of the Week => Los Angeles Chargers (-15.5) over Cincinnati Bengals

The Chargers have been surging and have slowly climbed to 4th on my Power Rankings.  Now they face the depleted Chiefs who are down both Andy Dalton and A.J. Green.  In addition, the Bengals have the 28th ranked defense in the NFL per DVOA.  The Chargers have the fifth most yards per game (399.4) and sixth most points per game (28.3) in the NFL.  Honestly, even without Melvin Gordon, I don’t see how the Chargers lose this one.

Upset of the Week => Arizona Cardinals (+1.0) over Detroit Lions

The Lions will likely get Kerryon Johnson back this week, but the rest of the team is a mess.  Stafford has been on a ridiculous slide throwing for just 3 TDs as compared to 4 INTs in the last 4 games.  And now he faces a Cardinals defense that allows the 4th least amount of passing yards per game (220.4) of any team in the NFL and are 9th against the pass per DVOA.  The Lions, on the other hand, have the 4th worst defense in the NFL per DVOA.  The Cardinals aren’t good, but I don’t see the Lions turning it around this week.

Joanne Kong’s Picks

Ryan Whitfield’s Picks

Ryan’s Thoughts:

I got eviscerated in the one o’clock games last week but bounced back nicely to go 10-6 and keep pace with that overrated bum Ha Kung. I managed to pull solely into second place, and can now just focus on the five-game gap to first place. Let’s look at what we got this week.

My quick locks of the week:

The Chargers blow out the Bengals in LA, The Steelers get back to winning football in Oakland, the Cowboys so up the NFC East in Jerry world over the Eagles, and the Saints win big in Tampa.

Close calls:

I’ll take the Giants by a hair over the Redskins, Texans tack another win against Indianapolis, and the Bills take down the Jets.

Upset of the week:

The Ravens take down the Chiefs in Arrowhead. The Ravens have seen a spark since Lamar Jackson stepped in, they can play defense and slow down the Chiefs, and Andy Reid is due to cough up a late-season game. You heard it here first.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

Philadelphia at Dallas: Are the Eagles back? In a word no. They couldn’t put the badly injured and disintegrating Redskins away until the fourth quarter. They can’t stop the run and here comes Ezekiel Elliott. Plus that Dallas defense is the real article.

Baltimore at Kansas City/L.A. Rams at Chicago: two games where the irresistible force meets the immovable object. Both the Ravens and Bears defenses have been the most difficult to move the ball again. Bears are a better chance because they are at home and perhaps the elements can help them. Can Lamar Jackson get the Ravens the 24-27 points they need minimum to have a chance in KC. I am going with the Rams/Chiefs but they are two of the biggest upset chances this week.
