Without further to do, here we go:

Week 5 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Over the last 4 seasons, I’ve averaged a 65% win percentage, which means that’s now eleven years in a row with over a 60% pick rate. Last year, I also was 95% on my Lock of the Week (20-1) and 50% on my Upset of the Week (10-10).  But that was the past, and this is now, and I’m shooting for twelve years in a row for my picks and Locks!

In Week 4, I had a decent 9-7 leaving me 37-27 for the season.

Let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 5…

Lock of the Week ➡ Houston Texans (-7.5) over Tennessee Titans

Despite both teams entering Week 5 winless at 0-4, the Houston Texans are poised to defeat the Tennessee Titans largely due to their advantage in the passing game. Houston’s aerial attack, led by C.J. Stroud’s 1,141 passing yards and zero interceptions through the first four weeks, is producing 264.8 passing yards per game, compared to the Titans’ sluggish 172.3 yards. Further, Tennessee’s offense has struggled heavily, amassing an NFL-low 1,045 total yards and managing just 13.8 points per game, hindered by an abysmal 38.5% completion rate in the red zone. While Houston’s defense has surrendered 27.3 points per game, their pass rush—highlighted by Will Anderson Jr.’s 4 sacks and a league-leading 9 first-half sacks as a team—should easily overwhelm a vulnerable Titans offense led by Cam Ward, securing the Texans’ first win of the year.

Upset of the Week ➡ New Orleans Saints (+1.5) over Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are 4-0 so you probably think I’m out of my mind.  But I think a really subpar offense is going to let them down eventually.  They face a New Orleans Saints team that, through the first 4 weeks, has been explosive, with quarterback Tyler Shough throwing for 1,203 yards and 9 touchdowns, heavily targeting receiver Chris Olave who already has 491 receiving yards. This passing game fuels an offense averaging 26.3 points and 278.5 passing yards per game, completely eclipsing the aforementioned subpar Minnesota offense that manages just 21.5 points and a meager 156.0 passing yards per contest currently with Kyler Murray under center.  O top of that, New Orleans has been efficient in crucial situations, boasting a 50% third-down conversion rate and an elite 80% red zone scoring percentage, highlighted by a league-leading 10 total touchdowns in goal-to-go scenarios. While the Vikings do have a solid defense that leads the league with 16 sacks, Minnesota’s offense, averaging just 262.5 total yards per game, is going to do them in eventually.  And I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s this week.

George’s Thoughts:

Better week last week but still falling further behind so let’s improve this week.

Minnesota at New Orleans: As good as the Vikings defense is they can’t keep shouldering the load for this mediocre offense forever. And the Saints might be 1-4 but moving the football hasn’t been an issue for them. And I think New Orleans moves the football enough to knock Minnesota from the ranks of the unbeaten.

San Francisco at Seattle: I know its only week 5 but this might be a must win for the Seahawks. It’s entirely possible that if the 49ers win at Lumen Field they could be unbeaten all the way to after to the rematch after Thanksgiving. San Francisco is a boulder that must be stopped before it rolls over everyone. And Seattle has to be the 1 to do it.

Buffalo at L.A. Rams: The Rams looked dead in the water at Philadelphia despite the fact that Saquon Barkley was injured in the first quarter. And now they face a potent Bills outfit stinging from a frankly ludicrous loss at home to New England. Bills bounce back big here.
