Week 3 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

After a 64.7% record four seasons ago, and 63.3% (178-103) three seasons ago and 63.4% (180-104) two seasons ago, I ended up at a whopping 68.8% last season, my best season yet.  So that’s ten years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  I also had 84% right for Locks of the Week (16-3) and 44.4% for Upsets of the Week (8-10), so not only did I meat my 2023 percentages for both Locks and Upsets, but I have ten years in a row of Locks being over 70%.  But that was the past, and this is now, and I’m shooting for eleven in a row for both!

Last week I went 13-3, leaving me 24-8 for the season (75%), hitting both my Lock (2-0) and Upset (1-1).  Let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 3…

Lock of the Week Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-7.0) over New York Jets

The Bucs have pulled out two close wins, Week 1 against the better-than-you-think Falcons and Week 2 against the underachieving Texans.  This week they face the not-good-and-going-south Jets, who lost to the Steelers and the Bills and have now have lost starting QB Justin Fields.  Tyrod Taylor is serviceable, but I don’t think he’s going to reignite the sputtering Jets offense on the road.  Baker Mayfield is playing at a high level and the Bucs should carry on undefeated.  Lock it in.

Upset of the Week Cincinnati Bengals (+3.0) over Minnesota Vikings

The Bengals lost Joe Burrow, but Jake Browning still managed to step in and pull it out against the Jaguars.  The good news is that all the other skill players are still there, including Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Chase Brown.  The Vikings looked good in Week 1 against the Bears, but it turns out the Bears are actually that bad on defense after getting decimated by the Lions for 52 points.  The Vikings got completely undressed in Week 2 against the Falcons and is now without JJ McCarthy and Aaron Jones.  Some may say that the Vikings will be better with Carson Wentz and Jordan Mason, but come on, they were essentially backups for a reason.  The Bengals will make mistakes, especially after browning threw 3 INTs in less than a full game, but will do enough right that I wouldn’t be surprised by the upset.

Joanne Kong’s Picks

Scott King’s Picks

Scott’s Thoughts:

Slow start but it’s marathon. Lions have a really tough road game this week, we’ll see how that goes. Injuries already hitting teams in a Big way. Bengals in trouble and the Vikings lost jones as well. Keep grinding

Ryan’s Picks

Ryan’s Thoughts:

I went fairly chalk this week, so here are a few picks of note for me.

Pittsburgh over New England. From the resident Patriot fan here? Yes. Both defenses have been atrocious to start this season which means we’re likely looking at a shootout. That means essentially picking Rodgers and Metcalf vs. Maye and insert Patriots receiver name here. I think Maye and the offense continue to build on last week but ultimately they come up short.

Caroline over Atlanta – The Panthers are 5.5-point home dogs in this game, but I like this as an upset spot. The Falcons have been better this season, but not by a large margin. These are two teams in the bottom half of the league in points per game offensively and the yards per game are close enough when you factor in that the Falcons have played both games inside so far. I chop this one up to the Panthers won’t go 0-17, the Falcons are fine not great, and it’s a road divisional game outdoors for a young quarterback.

Jacksonville vs. Houston – This one is essentially a pick ’em with the Texans getting 1.5 points on the road. I put it in here because over 60% of Yahoo users are taking the Texans. Look, Stroud and this offense have struggled for over a year now and the Jaguars are 5th in offensive yards and 7th in points per game. Divisional game at home to boot. I have the Jaguars winning by a touchdown.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

Indianapolis at Tennessee: Daniel Jones is on fire and the Titans are 0-2. So why the Titans? Because I can’t imagine this Colts team going 3-0 and Tennessee is starting to give Cam Ward more responsibility. They need to open up the offense to win and they will to catch Indianapolis by surprise.

Cincinnati at Minnesota: As a Commanders fan I am duty bound to pick against Carson Wentz. I don’t care that he’s with quarterback whisperer Kevin O’Connell. I don’t care that it’s Jake Browning on the other side. No. No to Wentz. No no no!

Pittsburgh at New England: Last week revealed that the same old problems plaguing the Steelers are still there. Undisciplined. Struggling to run the football. And now there defense can’t stop anybody. Patriots did only sneak past the awful Dolphins but that win will spark their season, take the Pats.

Arizona at San Francisco: Cardinals defense is off to a pretty good start and in Mac Jones they will get a QB that will give them a chance for several turnovers. In a wide open NFC West this is a huge game and I am backing Arizona to establish there division-winning credentials with a huge road victory.

Eliminator pick: Seattle
