“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene Super Bowl LV Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 4 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  And we’re finally at the end of the season with one more pick to go!

Without further to do, here we go:

Super Bowl LV

Super Bowl LV

February 7, 2021

Raymond James Stadium

Tampa Bay, Florida

6:30 PM ET

Spread: Kansas City Chiefs -3

Over/Under: 56

Chiefs Moneyline: -167

Buccaneers Moneyline: +145

Ha Kung Wong’s Pick

Kansas City Chiefs win 27-24, Chiefs cover the spread.

Pick the Under.

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 64.7% record for the season, so that’s five years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  Plus, I had a 88.2% record on Locks of the Week and a 64.7% record on Upsets of the Week.  Don’t worry, I don’t plan on stopping now!

So I whiffed on the Conference Championships, but end the season at 183-83 (68.8%), which leaves me at my sixth year in a row with over a 60% pick rate, and my highest pick rate over that time.  I also end the year essentially 17-2 (89.5%) for Locks of the Week and 8-10 (44.4%) for Upsets of the Week.  Not too shabby.

Thanks again for following my picks and I hope I won you some money!  Looking forward to doing all over again next season!

Joanne Kong’s Pick

Kansas City Chiefs win 34-28, Chiefs cover the spread.

Pick the Over.

Joanne’s Thoughts:

For the first time ever, a team will have the home field advantage in Super Bowl 55. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host the Kansas City Chiefs in Florida as Tom Brady leads the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl since 2003, when John Gruden was head coach.

The reigning Super Bowl Champions will be a hard team to beat with Mahomes at the helm and Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Bryon Pringle as targets. The Chiefs did beat the Cleveland Browns in the divisional round even after Mahomes left the game due to the concussion protocol. And they did shut down the Buffalo Bills passing game in the Conference Championship. Who knew the Chiefs secondary was so good? Ranked 14th during the regular season against the pass, they really aren’t that good…obviously until it mattered. But if anyone can beat the Chiefs, could it be Brady and the Buccaneers?

The Buccaneers have certainly gotten value from Brady’s $50 Million guaranteed two-year contract, and it’s certain that Brady will bring the house on Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. The Chiefs were able to shut down the Bills and quarterback Josh Allen, who had difficulty adjusting the Chiefs defensive schemes. With his years of experience, Brady is unlikely to fall into a similar trap. It’s clear that Brady can essentially make any player on the field a potential threat, not just super stars Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski, but also the likes Scotty Miller and Cameron Brate, which will cause problems for the Chiefs secondary. Unlike the Bills, the Buccaneers also have two reliable running backs with Ronald Jones ll and Leonard Fournette.

If the Chiefs defense is able to break Brady’s offensive rhythm, it’s unlikely the Buccaneers can outplay the Chiefs.

George’s Pick

Kansas City Chiefs win 30-21, Chiefs cover the spread.

Pick the Under.

George’s Thoughts:

This is going to be the game where we say “but Patrick Mahomes.” Tampa Bay’s front four is on fire and with no Eric Fisher could constantly be in Mahomes face.

Tampa Bay also boasts a running attack that’s produced in these playoffs. And what’s been one of the most effective ways to stop the Chiefs. Keep them on the sideline.
But Pat Mahomes.

And it really comes down to that. Andy Reid and Mahomes is one of the best matches between a coach and QB imaginable. And don’t forget that when they met the first time, the Chiefs should’ve crushed them. It was 20-7 at halftime and Tyreek Hill had over 200 yards receiving in the first half. Tampa Bay covering 3.5 that day was miraculous. If Mahomes gets any kind of time he will torch that secondary again. And if the Bucs decide they have to take Hill away. Then there’s Mecole Hardman, Travis Kelce or even the emerging Darrell Williams.

And don’t forget, the Bucs have won in spite of Tom Brady’s struggles the last 2 games. Brady will have to roll back the years to find a performance that can keep up with Mahomes.
