“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene Week 13 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 4 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  This year we’ll have their picks up right HERE, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Week 13 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 64.7% record for the season, so that’s five years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  Plus, I had a 88.2% record on Locks of the Week and a 64.7% record on Upsets of the Week.  Don’t worry, I don’t plan on stopping now!

We had a great Week 12 going 12-3, leaving us at 120-55 for the season (68.6%), which is pretty darn good.  But others are keeping up, so I need to keep moving forward!  I’m also rolling with 10-2 (83.3%) for Locks of the Week and 6-6 (50.0%) for Upsets of the Week.  But I’ve got plenty of work to do, so let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 13…

Lock of the Week Miami Dolphins (-11.5) over Cincinnati Bengals

There’s two major issues here.  First, losing Joe Burrow has torpedoed the Bengals for the rest of the season.  Second, the Miami Dolphins have one of the best defenses in the league. They allow the 2nd least points per game (18.6), allow the 3rd lowest passer rating (84.3), and have the 3rd most takeaways (19).  Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely to start, and I actually think that makes the Dolphins offense better.  Like I say, don’t over think it.  Lock in the Dolphins.

Upset of the Week Arizona Cardinals (+3.0) over Los Angeles Rams

To me, the Rams feel like a team that’s somewhat over achieving and the Cardinals are a team that’s somewhat under achieving.  The Cardinals have the second most yards per game (403.7) and the 8th most points per game (27.6) this season, and I only see them getting better.  The Rams do have one of the better defenses in the league, but their offense has been middling, having only the 19th most points per game (23.9) and, more importantly, the 5th most giveaways (19) this season.  Hard to win consistently turning the ball over.  Call it a gut call, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the upset.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

Consolidating my spot in second is great but I can’t quite grab on to the shirt tail of first so we will start this weekend by saying the heck with Taysom Hill and what happened 2 weeks ago. Falcons will get revenge and save the Saints from themselves by showing them that Hill is not a viable option at QB going forward.

Eliminator: It’s difficult to decide between Las Vegas and Minnesota this week because both of them are flaky enough to lose. But since the Jaguars aren’t starting Gardner Minshew who is healthy enough to start, I’ll advise you take the Vikings.

Others: Two other teams I like this week are ones that you just can’t kill off. Every time the 49ers and Patriots look finished they rise up and claim another favored victim. And I think both of them continue their revivals against the Bills and the Chargers respectively.
Indianapolis’ defense was exposed again last week and the Houston offense is starting to roll so take the Texans.
