Week 3 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

After a 64.7% record three seasons ago, and 63.3% (178-103) two seasons ago, I ended up with 63.4% (180-104) last season.  So that’s nine years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  I also had 85% right for Locks of the Week (17-3) and 42.1% for Upsets of the Week (8-11), so not only did I beat my 2022 percentages for both Locks and Upsets, but I have nine years in a row of Locks being over 70%.

In Week 2, I went 9-7 (56.2%), which felt pretty good in light of all the upsets we had, leaving me 22-10 for the season (68.8%), hit my Lock of the Week with the Chargers (1-1 on the season) and my Upset of the Week with the Bills (2-0 on the season).

Let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 3…

Lock of the Week Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-7) over Denver Broncos

The Buccaneers are coming off an impressive win against the Lions in Week 2, where Baker Mayfield did just enough through the air (185 yards, TD & an INT) and on the ground (34 yards and a TD) to get the win.  And this was after an impressive 4 TD performance in Week 1.  Chris Godwin also looks rejuvenated back in the slot where he’s thrived previously now averaging 100 yards and a TD per game.  As for the Broncos, rookie Bo Nix continues to make me question why Sean Peyton hated him so much that he forced him to start with zero weapons and essentially a non-existent ground game.  Broncos defense isn’t terrible, but I have a hard time seeing them stop the Bucs when they’re rolling.  I have zero faith in the Broncos, so I like the Buccaneers as the lock of the week.

Upset of the Week Chicago Bears (+1) over Indianapolis Colts

The Bears offense is nothing like we thought it might be as Caleb Williams has struggled with timing and accuracy, and D’Andre Swift has struggled with efficiency.  Part of that may change this week, as the Colts defense has allowed a ridiculous 237 rushing yards per game to opposing offenses, good for worst in the NFL.  I can see solid Bears defense, currently 8th best in the league in terms of limiting yards allowed to opposing offenses, and a grind it out game on the ground.  Anthony Richardson is himself undergoing growing pains, having one great game and one to forget, but losing to the Packers in Week 2, who have allowed the 6th most yards to opposing offenses, when the Packers were without QB Jordan Love, is pretty bad.  I like the potential upset here.

Scott King’s Picks

Scott’s Thoughts:

Just when you think you have the league figured out, wake up call. Unbelievable week 2. Need to claw back this week. Some tough close games. Lots of FGs.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

Tennessee could be 2-0 if Will Levis didn’t make two of THE DUMBEST decisions a quarterback has ever made. After being called out and cussed out by his coach I think Levis will avoid those massive errors and get the Titans off the canvas to beat the Packers.
So having backed Green Bay to beat Indianapolis last week how can I pick the Colts to win this week. Simple, Anthony Richardson is in offense that’s better suited to his talents then the offense that Caleb Williams is in being suited to his talents.

The Chargers are 2-0 but they’ve beaten no one and they are coming up against a Steelers defense that’s the best it’s been in a decade. Pittsburgh’s unbeaten start and Justin Fields redemption arc continues.

It makes no sense to pick the Dolphins to win at Seattle. But the Seahawks have not beaten much either. And I’m buying a dominant Dolphins running game helping Skylar Thompson be effective.

Ravens get off the mat against the Cowboys and the Bengals will route the Commanders on Monday night.
