Waiver Favors™: 2019 Week 12 Fantasy Football Pickups

As I do every year over the last 7 years, I’m back to help with some waiver wire adds via my weekly Waiver Favors™ article! I’m assuming if you’re a returning reader, you won your fantasy football championship last year, so congratulations! But it’s a new year, so I’ll make a couple suggestions after Week 12 of the 2019 fantasy football season. You’re welcome. Again.
As usual, all pickups are available in at least 50% of Yahoo standard fantasy football leagues (with some minor exceptions) as of Sunday evening.
Benny Snell Jr.
RB – Pittsburgh Steelers – 5% Owned
No James Conner, so Jaylen Samuels is the guy, right? Apparently, that’s wrong, as Benny Snell returned from a knee injury in Week 12 to rush 21 times for 98 yards, and added 5 yards on one catch, leading the Steelers backfield in touches, including Samuels, who had just 2 carries. Conner may be back soon, and the Steelers offense is a complete mess, now with Mason Rudolph benched and Devlin “Duck” Hodges behind center, so temper expectations, but assuming Conner remains out, Snell is worth a pickup by all Conner owners or anyone looking for an RB3/Flex in 14-team leagues or deeper.
Rashaad Penny
RB – Seattle Seahawks – 20% Owned
We all know that coach Pete Carroll Penny hates players who fumble (which makes sense), and we also that Chris Carson fumbled a lot in Week 12. That led to Rashaad Penny rushing 14 times for 129 yards and a TD, which is almost as much as he had in the entire season through Week 11 (167 rushing yards). A lot of his production was from a career-best 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but that’s the type of play that might get you more looks during the remainder of the season, so perhaps he’s worth a look for all Carson owners and those looking for Flex help in 14-team leagues or deeper.
James Washington
WR – Pittsburgh Steelers – 20% Owned
As I mentioned, I have little confidence in the Steelers offense, but you know what happened with Hodges’ second pass of the game? He hit James Washington for 79-yard TD. Washington ended up catching 3 of 7 targets for 98 yards and a TD, and admittedly, most of that was in the one catch-and-run, so there’s definitely some potential, albeit inconsistent potential, going forward. Feel free to take a flyer on him in 14-team leagues or deeper.
Anthony Miller
WR – Chicago Bears – 12% Owned
I’m one of those guys that had high expectations for the Chicago offense preseason, and drafted Anthony Miller in several of my leagues. Clearly, that was a huge mistake…at least until now. In Week 11, Miller managed to grab 6 of a whopping 11 targets for 54 yards, and he followed that up in Week 12 catching six of 9 targets for 77 yards. It’s not all butterflies and roses though, as Miller hasn’t caught a TD since last year, but with uptick in usage, Miller is viable in all 14-team PPR leagues or deeper.
David Njoku
TE – Cleveland Browns – 30%
David Njoku resumed practice from his wrist injury and was close to being activated in Week 12. It’s unclear what role he’ll have upon returning, seeing as how Mayfield, OBJ and Landry have finally connected, but he did catch 4 of 6 targets for 37 yards and TD in Week 1 prior to injury and he was drafted preseason as a top-12 option, so he’s worth a speculative pickup in all 12-team leagues for TE-needy teams.
