Week 7 Games
Ha Kung Wong’s Picks
Ha Kung’s Thoughts:
As I mention every week, copy my picks and you can thank me later. After Week 6, I’m still in the lead with 58-33 for the season. You want to win your pool? I’m your guy.
One of the most interesting games for me this week will be Philadelphia Eagles @ Carolina Panthers. Carolina is undefeated on the back of a strong defense (allowing the 7th least yards per game to opposing offenses) and solid ground game (gaining the 3rd most rush yards per game in the NFL). But when it comes to passing the ball, the Panthers are 3rd worst in terms of passing yards per game. Philadelphia, on the other hand, has been, relatively speaking, awful. But importantly, DeMarco Murray seems to have gotten his mojo back, and although Sam Bradford is completing equal number interceptions as touchdowns, the Eagles are at least moving the ball. The NFC East is wide open and the Eagles will look to get ahead this week with an offense which is finally starting to match what was expected in the preseason. Although I think Philly will come close, Carolina controls tempo too well, and their resilience was on display with the end of game win against Seattle in Week 6. Carolina remains undefeated in Week 7.
Scott King’s Picks
Scott’s Thoughts:
It’s time for teams to get things straight or they are out of the playoffs. Seattle, Buffalo and Indy all must get wins this week if they want to be in playoff contention. Carolina has a big test to prove they are for real.
Joanne Kong’s Picks
Joanne’s Thoughts:
Seattle Seahawks (2-4) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-4)
There’s something to be said for a 2-4 team who’s lost to the undefeated Green Bay Packers, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Carolina Panthers. They weren’t the only ones. On the other hand, some victories include the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. Suddenly, you get a little more respect for these teams. They’re not the best, but they’re not the worst.
With that said, there has to be a bottom team for each division and neither Seattle or San Francisco wants to hold that “sacko” honor. Based on past performances and team opponents, the Seattle Seahawks should avoid the “sacko” in this divisional match-up moving to 3-4 at the end of week 7.
Russell Wilson had 6 rushing TD’s in 2014. He’s had none in 2015. The Seahawks will need to pull out every trick in the playbook tonight to avoid a disastrous 2-5 start, so expect Wilson to have his first rushing TD in week 7.
Better luck in week 8, San Francisco.
New York Jets (4-1) @ New England Patriots (5-0)
It’s hard to associate the New England Patriots and a home game with a loss. But if anyone can do it, it just may be the New York Jets. I know! The Jets defense have been a force this season and the Patriots have yet to play a competitive defensive team, partly explaining their 5-0 record. The Jets advantage, cornerback Darrell Revis previously played for the New England Patriots.
This will be the divisional game to watch.
For the Jets, it’s less about quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and more about the team. The contribution of Chris Ivory, connecting with open receivers and the strong secondary will make it tough for the Patriots to prevail.
The Jets win.
Cleveland Browns (2-4) @ St. Louis Rams (2-3)
In week 6, the Cleveland Browns intercepted Peyton Manning and returned it for a touchdown, as predicted. Not that I’m gloating, since Peyton Manning has more interceptions than TD’s this season. I also predicted the Browns would win. They had a narrow loss in overtime.
In week 7, the St. Louis Rams are coming off a bye-week, while the last two games for the Cleveland Browns have ended in OT. There’s no arguing the Browns are 2-4, but regardless of the number of wins/losses, the Browns have been a better team than predicted with the 13 year veteran standing behind center. Josh McCown had 2 interceptions and 4 sacks against the Denver Broncos, who lead the league in sacks, but he still managed to keep the game close.
The experts don’t expect the Browns to win I St. Louis. I think the Browns prove the experts wrong.
The Browns win.
Josh McCown will need to keep his options open and use every play in the book to win at St. Louis, expect McCown to rush for a TD.
