2022 FGT Fantasy Football Mock Draft – Rounds 3 & 4

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

As I mention last time, we here at Football Garbage Time are back with our 8th Annual Fantasy Football Twitter Mock Draft, and this time with Rounds 3 and 4.

As a reminder, we’re conducted a live Mock Fantasy Football Draft on Twitter (just check out #FGTMockDraft) for a mock PPR standard scoring Yahoo 10-team league (1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Non-QB FLEX, 1 K & 1 DEF) so that all of you can get some insight as to who we like for the upcoming 2022 season, and hopefully help all of you with your drafts.

This year, ten different writers & podcasters from five different sites participated, including:

Each one took mpart in a mock draft live over several weeks on Twitter, so follow along on Twitter by searching for #FGTMockDraft!  What trends and surprises did we see?

Below are the results of the second two rounds along with some comments from those who made the picks.  We also include the Average Draft Position (ADP) as of July 31, 2022 as per Fantasy Pros so you can see how we differ from how they’re currently being drafted in PPR leagues.

Don’t forget to also check out our Rounds 1 & 2 Picks and our Rounds 5 & 6 Picks!

Joanne Kong

3rd Round – Pick 21 – Mark Andrews (TE) [Current ADP: 23.0]

4th Round – Pick 40 – Mike Williams (WR) [Current ADP: 51.4]

This is what Joanne had to say about her picks:

In the 2021 season Mark Andrews was the top tight end fantasy scorer with 301.1 fantasy points, 1361 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. Not only was Andrews the top tight-end last season, but the Baltimore Ravens top receiver, Marquise Brown, is no longer there. Lamar Jackson will be back, which bodes well for Andrews who was able to finish as TE1 even while playing four games with Jackson.

Mike Williams was the 11th wide receiver fantasy scorer in 2021 with 1146 receiving yards and 9TDs. He’s been a great option to Keenan Allen for the Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert. Williams recently signed a 3-year $60-million deal and has become the fifth highest paid wide receiver in the NFL. Williams has been a difference maker for the Chargers, with Allen usually under double coverage.

Scott King

3rd Round – Pick 22 – Justin Herbert (QB) [Current ADP: 37.2]

4th Round – Pick 39 – DJ Moore (WR) [Current ADP: 43.6]

This is what Scott had to say about his picks:

After starting out RB/RB I needed to grab a QB before the run. I went Justin Herbert, who I think is heading for a big-time year with Allen, Williams and Ekeler as returning targets.  After that I went on a WR run starting with DJ Moore in Carolina, who should be solid with new QB Baker Mayfield under center.

3rd Round – Pick 23 – Saquon Barkley (RB) [Current ADP: 22.8]

4th Round – Pick 38 – Ezekiel Elliott (RB) [Current ADP: 31.0]

Dave Earl

3rd Round – Pick 24 – Patrick Mahomes (QB) [Current ADP: 35.4]

4th Round – Pick 37 – Breece Hall (RB) [Current ADP: 43.6]

Ryan Whitfield

3rd Round – Pick 25 – Aaron Jones (RB) [Current ADP: 20.2]

4th Round – Pick 36 – A.J. Brown (WR) [Current ADP: 29.8]

FXP Jr.

3rd Round – Pick 26 – Tyreek Hill (WR) [Current ADP: 19.6]

4th Round – Pick 35 – David Montgomery (RB) [Current ADP: 32.8]

This is what FXP Jr. had to say about his picks:

Tyreek Hill is going to be a solid number one WR for the Dolphins and with Jaylen Waddle at his side it is more of a pick your poison coverage.  Hill will have many opportunities and Tua improving as an accurate QB. David Montgomery is a solid pass catching and speed back.  The Bears are also one of the few teams in the league where he will not split touches.

Will Gentile

3rd Round – Pick 27 – Deebo Samuel (WR) [Current ADP: 17.6]

4th Round – Pick 34 – James Conner (RB) [Current ADP: 29.4]

This is what Will had to say about his picks:

Deebo Samuel in the 3rd round was a steal. If James Connor is the lead back again, he is great value in the 4th.

Wole Akinso

3rd Round – Pick 28 – Terry McLaurin (WR) [Current ADP: 42.8]

4th Round – Pick 33 – Lamar Jackson (QB) [Current ADP: 52.2]

Ha Kung Wong

3rd Round – Pick 29 – Leonard Fournette (RB) [Current ADP: 21.6]

4th Round – Pick 32 – Keenan Allen (WR) [Current ADP: 28.4]

This is what Ha Kung had to say about his picks:

Leonard Fournette proved last year that he could be a three-down back with upside in one of the most prolific offenses in the league.  He had his most productive fantasy football season since his rookie year, with 1,266 scrimmage yards (90.4 yards per game) and 10 total touchdowns in 14 games.  In Weeks 4 to 14, Fournette had the overwhelming majority of RB touches averaging 19.7 touches and 103 total yards per game and excelled in the passing game leading all running backs in targets (63), being fourth in receiving yards (344) and catching a whopping 82% of his targets.  There’s some concern from reporters about his weight this season, but that seems under control, plus his familiarity with Tom Brady ensures a significant floor in 2022.  Getting him in the 3rd round is a great way to get a RB1 later in the draft so you can grab top end WR or TE in the first two rounds.

Coming around to the 4th round, I saw an opportunity to take who might be the most underrated WR1 in the NFL.  In 2021, he had more than 100 receptions for the fifth straight season and although there’s some question as to whether Mike Williams is the true WR1 for the Chargers, Allen remained Justin Herbert’s top option with a 22% target share.  Will he keep it up in 2022?  I’m willing to bank on consistency, particularly with a 4th round pick.

Adam Aniba

3rd Round – Pick 30 – Mike Evans (WR) [Current ADP: 24.6]

4th Round – Pick 31 – Antonio Gibson (RB) [Current ADP: 40.4]

This is what Adam had to say about his picks:

Mike Evans is money in the bank. He’s had over 65 receptions and 1,000 yards in 8 straight seasons, and with at least 13 touchdowns in each year with Tom Brady.  And guess who’s back in Tampa?  Evans has been Brady’s favorite red-zone option, and with Rob Gronkowski retiring, that shouldn’t chance.  Sure, Julio Jones is now there, and Chris Godwin will eventually return from his ACL injury, but Evans was doing this with and without competition, so there’s no reason he can’t do it again.  Round 3 for this consistent production is a steal.

Antonio Gibson has been absolutely rock-solid over the last two seasons and is particularly solid in PPR leagues being tenth in yards per route run and 5th in evaded tackles.  Sure, he’s got passing down competition with J.D. McKissic back, but he was also tied for 7th for carries inside the five-yard line, so he’ll still get those goal line carries to up his value.  There’s some risk that Brian Robinson steals some of that work, but Gibson has familiarity with the offense and is a good bet to continue what he’s started.
