“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene 2021 Week 17 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 7 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  This year we’ll have their picks up right HERE, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Week 17 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 68.1% record for the season, so that’s six years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  Currently, I’m at a solid 153-86 (64.0%) on the year.  Last year, I had an 87.5% record on Locks of the Week and a 50% record on Upsets of the Week.  So far I’m 68.8% (11-5) on my Locks and 56.3% (9-7) on my Upsets this year, so we’re still on track.

Let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 17…

Lock of the Week Green Bay Packers (-6.5) over Minnesota Vikings

First of all, the Packers are on a roll and get Marques Valdes-Scantling back, so Aaron Rodgers has a full complement of weapons.  Second, the Minnesota Vikings defense allow the 4th most total yards per game (379.0) of any team in the NFL this season.  And finally, Kirk Cousins was placed on the COVID list and will miss the game, meaning that Sean Mannion is likely to start against a Packers defense that already allows the 10th least passing yards in the NFL.  In case you’re wondering, Mannion 45 of 74 for 384 passing yards, 2 INTs and no TDs over the course of his career.  So, yeah, lock in those Packers.

Upset of the Week Arizona Cardinals (+5.5) over Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are definitely on a roll, but their win streak has been against the Saints, Washington twice and the Giants. Those three teams are a combined 17-28, none of which are currently looking like they’ll make the playoffs, so perhaps this “win streak” is a little misleading.  Meanwhile, the Cardinals have been on a bit of slide, the worst of which was losing to the Detroit Lions, but their other two losses were by one score to the Rams and Colts, both of which appear to be playoff bound.  I think that the Cardinals get their act together for this big game and right the ship.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

I don’t care if the weather is a factor I am happy to trust Tua over slumping Ryan Tannehill. This miraculous Miami renaissance continues.

I will use potential wintry weather as an angle for the Ravens to surprise the Rams and give their fading playoff hopes a boost. Matthew Stafford’s December woes return.
How the hell can anyone pick Carolina to win. Did you see Ian Book the other night. That’s why.

And even though Heinz Field will be emotional for Ben Roethlisberger’s final game, the result against the Browns will be the same as last year’s playoff game. A dominant Browns win.
