“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene NFL Wild Card Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 4 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  This year we’ll have their picks up right HERE, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Wild Card Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 64.7% record for the season, so that’s five years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  Plus, I had a 88.2% record on Locks of the Week and a 64.7% record on Upsets of the Week.  Don’t worry, I don’t plan on stopping now!

We had an awesome Week 17 going 15-1, leaving us at 177-77 for the season (69.7%), which is pretty darn good.  Nearing the home stretch, but still have playoff picks to go!  I’m also rolling with 15-2 (87.5%) for Locks of the Week and 7-9 (43.8%) for Upsets of the Week (I’m taking a mulligan on last week’s Eagles debacle).  But I’ve got plenty of work to do, so let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Wildcard Weekend…

Lock of the Week Buffalo Bills (-6.5) over Indianapolis Colts

Upset of the Week Los Angeles Rams (+4.0) over Seattle Seahawks

I actually don’t have an upset this week, but if there were one, it’d be this game based on the quality of the Rams defense and the inconsistency of the Seahawks offense.  Check out my thoughts on the Urban Sports Scene Podcast and Football Garbage Time Podcast above!

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

Saturday:

Buffalo at Indianapolis: What do old quarterbacks with declining arm strength hate more than anything? Extremely cold weather. Well it’s 29 degrees in Buffalo tomorrow and they have fans too. Colts need to reprise their last playoff win in Houston. Lean on the running game, control the clock and play good defense. Bills have too much firepower for the Colts and their overrated defense.

L.A. Rams at Seattle: Very tepid support the Seahawks as I think this is a low-scoring where 1 play will turn it. I think Jamal Adams makes that play

Tampa Bay at Washington: The scenario for a Washington upset. Multiple sacks and hits on Tom Brady leading to turnovers and a huge effort from Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. Sadly just like 2015 an offense with a lot of firepower overwhelms them.

Sunday:

Baltimore at Tennessee: Everyone’s back on the Ravens bandwagon but 4 of their 5 wins have come against the NFC East and 2 teams picking in the top 5 of the draft. Am I supposed to be impressed by that? Especially when this Ravens defense struggles against the run and is up against the King, Derrick Henry. Titans make Lamar Jackson 0-3 in the playoffs.

Chicago at New Orleans: Don’t believe in either quarterback so I will take the team with the better running back and defense and that’s New Orleans.

Cleveland at Pittsburgh: Browns are a live chance here. Will the week of rest rejuvenate Ben Roethlisberger and that defense? Maybe but the Browns are a lot better than the team that got volleyball spiked at Heinz Field earlier int he season. Last time the Browns played in the playoffs they lost a high-scoring thriller at Pittsburgh. Might be a lot lower scoring but I expect a similar result.
