“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene Week 16 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 4 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  This year we’ll have their picks up right HERE, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Week 16 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 64.7% record for the season, so that’s five years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  Plus, I had a 88.2% record on Locks of the Week and a 64.7% record on Upsets of the Week.  Don’t worry, I don’t plan on stopping now!

We had a strong Week 15 going 12-4, leaving us at 152-70 for the season (68.5%), which is pretty darn good.  Building a good lead late in the season, but I need to keep moving forward because we still have plenty of picks to go!  I’m also rolling with 13-2 (86.7%) for Locks of the Week and 7-8 (46.7%) for Upsets of the Week.  But I’ve got plenty of work to do, so let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 16…

Lock of the Week Kansas City Chiefs (-10.5) over Atlanta Falcons

This is definitely one of those “don’t overthink it” moments.  The Falcons allow the 5th most yards per game (392.4) and the 5th highest passer rating to opposing QBs (103.2) this season, while the Chiefs have the most offensive yards per game (427.9) and are tied for the most points per game (31.1).  Sure, no Clyde Edwards-Hilaire doesn’t help, but Le’Veon Bell should do just fine with Patrick Mahomes directing traffic.  To add insult to injury, Julio Jones will be out this week again with a hamstring injury.  So, yeah, lock in the Chiefs.

Upset of the Week Tennessee Titans (+3.5) over Green Bay Packers

This one is going to be close, but I have a feeling we’re going to see an upset.  Both teams are rolling, but the Titans are tied for the most points per game (31.1) and have the 2nd most yards per game (399.4), including the 2nd most rush yards per game (160.4) behind King Henry.  The Packers are just as dangerous, and Aaron Rodgers should never be underestimated, but his receivers, outside of Davante Adams, just aren’t great.  In fact, the Packers have highest percentage of dropped passes (6.9%) in the league this season.  Interestingly, the Titans and Packers are tied for the least amount of turnovers this season (9) so I don’t expect a lot of mistakes on offense.  The difference will likely be on defense where the opportunistic Titans have the 5th most takeaways this season (21), while the Packers are 4th to last (14). Regardless, this should be a fun one to watch.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

It’s a pretty merry Christmas unless you are the Pittsburgh Steelers. The cumulative effect of an earlier than expected bye, moved games, their own COVID issues and the amount of close games they’ve played manifested itself against Washington and started their collapse. Pittsburgh is mentally and physically spent and there’s no cure for that. Indianapolis will hand the Steelers their 4th consecutive defeat.

Eliminator: Buffalo is rolling toward the second seed in the AFC playoffs and the Patriots are eliminated and looking forward to the offseason. Use the Bills if you haven’t already
Christmas and Saturday: Tepidly endorsing the Saints but that is more about a lack of faith in Kirk Cousins than it is any belief in a beatup Drew Brees.

Miami needs to win in Las Vegas who may or may not have Derek Carr. The Raiders playoffs torpedoed their hopes in December for the second straight year. Tua Tagovailoa passed a big test against the Pats last week. He passes another one to keep the Dolphins playoff hopes alive.

Others: Philadelphia wins the loser leaves town match with Dallas and a losses for Washington and the Giants will give the Eagles a chance to win the NFC East.

The NFC West is on the line in Los Angeles for the Rams and Seahawks. Russell Wilson reinserts himself in the MVP race with a massive performance against a Rams team that will not live down losing to the woeful Jets for a long time.

Tennessee and Green Bay will be a shootout with major implications for both conferences. The Packers could lock up the number 1 seed and the Titans are in the playoffs with a win and could win the AFC South. This may come down to who has the ball last given how great both offenses are. In a shootout I like taking the underdog so I will take the Titans.
