“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene Week 11 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 4 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  This year we’ll have their picks up right HERE, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Week 11 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 64.7% record for the season, so that’s five years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  Plus, I had a 88.2% record on Locks of the Week and a 64.7% record on Upsets of the Week.  Don’t worry, I don’t plan on stopping now!

We had a solid Week 10 going 9-5, leaving us at 100-46 for the season (68.5%), which is still pretty darn good.  But others are catching up, so I need to keep moving forward!  I’m also rolling with 8-2 (80%) for Locks of the Week and 5-5 (50%) for Upsets of the Week.  But I’ve got plenty of work to do, so let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 11…

Lock of the Week Pittsburgh Steelers (-10.0) over Jacksonville Jaguars

I picked on Jake Luton and the Jags last week, and I’m going back to the well.  The truth of the matter is that the Jaguars defense is the second WORST defense in the NFL per DVOA.  Match that up against Big Ben fresh off back-to-back 300+ yard games and 7 total TDs and you’ve got fireworks.  Plus, the Steelers are sporting the 2nd best defense in the NFL per DVOA, so I’m not optimistic about Luton and Robinson finding a way.  Don’t over think it.  Lock the Steelers in.

Upset of the Week Houston Texans (+2.0) over New England Patriots

No, the Texans aren’t good.  And the Patriots just beat the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football.  But surprisingly, although the Texans defense is a woeful 28th per DVOA this season, the Patriots defense are the worst.  Yup, that’s right, dead last.  Shocking, I know.  And how offense?  The Texans are an unimpressive 15th, but the Patriots are just 22nd.  And it’s no different in terms of points per game with the Texans 25th (22.2) and the Pats 27th (21.0).  Listen, we can play the numbers game all day, but the Texans pass offense isn’t bad, whereas the Pats are at best inconsistent.  I wouldn’t be surprised if the Texans pull off the surprise upset.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

UPDATE – George has changed his pick from the Saints to the Falcons assuming Taysom Hill is starting.

Well after losing Thursday night last week I only lost 1 more game the rest of the week (thank you DeAndre Hopkins you absolute King!) and now the game is afoot at the top.
The other loss was Seattle and I keep thinking that Russell Wilson can overcome his team’s lack of a running threat and a terrible defense. Well Atlas can’t hold up the world forever and Arizona’s proved they have the firepower to keep up with anyone. Wilson has no margin for error and not even Jamal Adams return changed that. Arizona takes control in the NFC West.

Survivor pick: A lot of folks will say take the Chargers (vs. Jets) or the Vikings (vs. Dallas) but I think upsets are possible in both. If you haven’t Pittsburgh then use them against the Jaguars.

Upsets: The Ravens have been officially found out. New England gashed their run defense and befuddled Lamar Jackson. If the Titans special teams doesn’t sabotage them they will win a key game for tiebreakers.

Indianapolis grabbed a big scalp when they beat Tennessee on Thursday night but should they really be favored against Green Bay? No. If the Colts have to go on long drives to score they can’t do it consistently and the Packers have the number 1 seed in their sights.

A Dallas upset makes no sense. There defense is awful and the Vikings are coming out of the grave. But Dallas were in position to beat the NFL’s last unbeaten, are coming off a bye and look like they will get Andy Dalton back. And remember this is still Kirk Cousins, an awful game is always just around the corner.

Others: Washington’s awful record against rookie QBs plus the fact that Joe Burrow just had his worst game as a pro means the Bengals win in a prime bounce-back spot.

Jameis Winston is in and if the Saints will dust off the downfield passing game from their playbook they will win a shootout against bitter rivals Atlanta.

New England is not dead yet and their revival will continue at moribund Houston.

And I give up, I was wrong about Tom Brady succeeding in South Florida, plus the Bucs put a double-nickel (that’s 55) on the Rams last year with Winston at QB. Bucs win.
