“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene Week 8 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 4 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  This year we’ll have their picks up right HERE, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Week 8 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 64.7% record for the season, so that’s five years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  Plus, I had a 88.2% record on Locks of the Week and a 64.7% record on Upsets of the Week.  Don’t worry, I don’t plan on stopping now!

We had a solid Week 7 going 9-5, leaving us at 74-30 for the season (71.1%), which is pretty darn good.  But I’ve got plenty of work to do, so let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 8…

Lock of the Week Kansas City Chiefs (-19.5) over New York Jets

I think you probably are starting to see a pattern, but this was is hardly even fair.  You can disagree if you want, but the Jets are a complete dumpster fire.  The Jets release their best player two weeks ago in Le’Veon Bell and are proud owners of the 5th worst pass defense in the NFL per DVOA.  I don’t think I have to discuss Patrick Mahomes or the Chiefs.  Sometimes it’s best not to overthink it.  Just lock em’ in.

Upset of the Week Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5) over Cleveland Browns

Did you realize that the Raiders have the 6th best passing offense and the Browns have the 9th worst pass defense in the NFL per DVOA?  Sure, the Raiders defense is also horrible, but the Browns are without Nick Chubb, OBJ and Austin Hooper now, so it’s yet to be seen how effective they’ll be moving forward.  Plus, Derek Carr has the 5th highest QBR rating (80.9) in the NFL and is really starting to demonstrate a connection with Nelson Agholor and Henry Ruggs along with Darren Waller.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see an upset.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

Never seen anything like last week where close game after close game went against my picks.

So to bounce back I am starting with Carolina who have found a way to lose the last 2 games instead of winning them. They bounce back by stopping the only outfit that’s worse than I am in close games, the Atlanta Falcons.

Underdogs: Still can’t believe in a Rams team with 4 of 5 wins against the horrendous NFC East. Miami is fresh off a bye, L.A. has to travel East and Tua Tagovailoa enters the picture. His mobility in the pocket will be crucial to a Dolphins win.

Pittsburgh is an underdog at Baltimore in the first two meetings of the NFL’s most brutal current rivalry. Lamar Jackson’s struggled throwing the football before the bye and even without Devin Bush, the Steelers defense isn’t the best 1 to get well against. The Steelers put a hammerlock on the AFC North with a win.

San Francisco is back and not only is the Seahawks’ defense struggling badly, but for the first time this season Russell Wilson looked mortal against the Cardinals. And Wilson’s margin of error is thin given how bad the defense is. Even with all the injuries the 49ers will find a way to run the ball and set Jimmy Garoppolo up to hurt that secondary with play action passes. San Francisco wins and inserts themselves into the NFC West race.

Others: With no confidence I am taking the Cowboys to beat the Eagles in a Sunday night game where you should avert your eyes if you are allergic to bad football. With not much more confidence I am backing the Saints to win at Chicago. The Browns, the Colts and the Bills to narrowly win.

Survivor: If you are still in then firstly, congratulations. Second, if you haven’t used the Chiefs yet this is the week to do so.
