“Pick ‘Em or Kick ‘Em”™: FGT VS. Urban Sports Scene Week 6 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.

And if you’ve been following us, you know that we here at Football Garbage Time have gone head to head against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks for the last 4 seasons.  Why?  Because they’re awesome competitors, they KNOW their sports, and, heck, they’re just good guys!  This year we’ll have their picks up right HERE, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long.

Without further to do, here we go:

Week 6 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

Last year I ended up with a 64.7% record for the season, so that’s five years in a row with over a 60% pick rate.  Plus, I had a 88.2% record on Locks of the Week and a 64.7% record on Upsets of the Week.  Don’t worry, I don’t plan on stopping now!

We had a solid Week 5 going 10-4, leaving us at 54-22 for the season (71.1%), which is pretty darn good.  But I’ve got plenty of work to do, so let’s get to that Lock (for Survivor Leagues) and Upset for Week 6…

Lock of the Week Miami Dolphins (-9.5) over New York Jets

It’s just so much fun watching Ryan Fitz-Magic play.  You can disagree if you want, but when it comes together, it really comes together.  That being said, I don’t think the Dolphins are that good, but check out who their playing…the winless New York Jets that just release their best player in Le’Veon Bell and proud owners of the 2nd worst pass defense in the NFL per DVOA.  Fitzpatrick just hung 350 yards and 3 TDs on the 49ers, just missing a perfect passer rating with a 154.5, so I don’t think he’s slowing down this week.  Sometimes it’s best not to overthink it.  Just lock em’ in.

Upset of the Week Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+2.5) over Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers is amazing, and I know it.  It really hurts to say as a Bears fan, but it’s the truth.  Plus Devante Adams should be back.  But did you realize that the Packers have the 4th worst defense overall in the NFL per DVOA?  And they get to face a fuming Bucs team that lost to the Bears on Thursday Night Football, led by Tom Brady, who’s likely to have practiced counting to 4 over the long layoff.  Also, the Bucs defense is actually the 2nd best in the NFL per DVOA, so theoretically, it won’t be easy sledding for Mr. Rodgers.  I smell an upset.

George’s Picks

George’s Thoughts:

Into a tie for second and setting my sights on the top spot.

Game of the week: Why in the world is Cleveland-Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. and not 4:05 or 4:25. This is the biggest game in this rivalry for decades and tough to pick a winner. Steelers haven’t beat anyone convincingly or anyone that’s actually good. Browns’ 4-game win streak is impressive but the best team they face this year, the Ravens, crushed them. The Browns haven’t won in Pittsburgh for a long time but found an identity running the football and wearing down defenses like they did to the Colts last week. And I think Cleveland can end it’s long Three Rivers hoodoo by doing the same thing here and containing Chase Claypool.

Survivor pick: Patriots or Dolphins

Others: Falcons fired their coach this week and may respond against a Vikings team that’s struggling in the secondary. Falcons get the dead cat bounce and win their first game.

Kyle Allen’s second start should last longer than the first but he doesn’t have the firepower to keep up with Daniel Jones in a shootout. Giants get their first win.

San Francisco’s season is on the line against L.A. Rams. At 2-3 if they lose they can nearly kiss the playoffs goodbye. Rams’ record is impressive until you realize there 4 wins are against the horrendous NFC East. 49ers rise up and beat the Rams.

Andy Dalton is in but that won’t stop the Cowboys offense which continues to amass gigantic chunks of yards and lots of points. And don’t be fooled by the Cardinals, their win over the Jets was hardly better than the previous 2 losses. Cowboys win.

Chiefs and Bills both fell from the ranks of the unbeaten and if Buffalo had their customary raucous crowd behind them I would pick them to surprise Kansas City. They don’t and the Chiefs will just sneak away.
