2016 Week 16 NFL Picks

By the Football Garbage Time Staff

If you followed last year, you won over 60% of your picks, and we aim to do even better this year.  We’re off to a decent start, so without further to do, here we go:

Week 16 Games

Ha Kung Wong’s Picks

Ha Kung’s Thoughts:

So my Week 15 was fine, but I’ll need to do better to catch up with Ryan, but I’m still 136-86 (61.3%).  We’ll see if I can get enough during the last two weeks of the regular season and playoffs to make this competitive.

Also, just because we love competition here at Football Garbage Time, we’re once again going heads up against Wally, Will and Ray at Urban Sports Scene on our NFL Picks.  We managed to edge the Urban Sports Scene gang in Week 15, leaving us at 6-3-3 against them for the season.

They’re awesome competitors, and they KNOW their sports, so keep it tuned in, to both us and them, because we’ll be picking all season all long!

New York Giants (10-4) @ Philadelphia Eagles (5-9)

Entering week 16, the Giants have won 8-out-of-9 games, sweeping their NFC division rival and current division leader Dallas Cowboys.

The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t been as successful.  After starting the season with three straight wins, the Eagles faltered and are now on a five game losing streak.  With their last win against the Atlanta Falcons in week 10, the Eagles have been struggling to put it nicely.

The Giants are looking to win.  Can they keep the streak alive?

  • The Giants Playoff hopes.

The Giants have everything to play for this Thursday night, while the Eagles don’t.  In fact, preventing the Giants from the playoffs might be the one highlight for the Eagles in the second half of the season.  A win for the Giants will clinch their first playoff berth since 2011, when they went on to win Super Bowl XLVI, defeating the New England Patriots.

  • Giants haven’t had much love on the road.

The Giants haven’t been very successful on the road this season, having 3-out-of-4 losses on the road.

  • The Eagles run game.

The Giants offense has had a mediocre run game this season.  But, the Giants defense has the 6th best rushing defense, allowing 90.1 yards per game.

In week 15, the Eagles had a lot of success in their run game, having 169 rushing yards.  Eagles running back, Ryan Mathews, rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown, against the Baltimore Ravens defense, who have the second best rushing defense in the league, allowing only 82.1 yards per game.

If the Giants want to win, they will need to stop the Eagles’ newly rejuvenated run game.

  • An injured defense.

Since the Giants and Eagles last met in week 9, the Giants have lost rookie safety, Darian Thompson (foot), and defensive end, Jason Pierre-Paul (core muscle), ending both their seasons.  Cornerback, Janoris Jenkis, was hit in the back in week 15 and left the game.  He was inactive thus far for practice, and still uncertain whether he will play on Thursday night against the Eagles.

Luckily, their absence hasn’t affected the Giants defense.  At least not yet.

What can we expect in week 16?

  • Sterling Shepard has a touchdown.
  • Zack Ertz has a touchdown.

The New York Giants win.
